Objects of training practices

Preparing forestry specialists an especially great attention is paid to their practical training. It is sought that College graduates adapt themselves in new workplaces as fast as possible, being able to apply advanced scientific achievements and technologies.
Kaunas Forestry and Environmental Engineering College of Higher Education possesses an exeptional experimental-training basis which has no analogues in Lithuania. In the vicinity of the College there is the Dubrava Experimental-Training Forest Enterprise, administrating 13.6 thous. ha of forests (www.dumu.lt). In the forests of the Enterprise, over almost 50 years of its activities more than 500 research, demonstration-experimental and training objects have been established by the joint efforts of researchers of the Lithuanian Forest Research Institute (www.mi.lt), lecturers of the College and the personnel of the Dubrava Enterprise.
Extremely useful for the practical training of students are the objects of forest seed breeding:

  • spruce seed orchard,
  • birch seed breeding plantation established in the controlled environment,
  • growing of seedlings for seed breeding objects,
  • cone shelling plant,
  • forest seed storage - cooler.

Saplings for planting in the forest, ornamental and Christmas trees are grown in 53,9 ha nursery.
Especially valuable for research purposes and education are:
  • established in 1959-1963 on an area of over 600 ha Kaunas Sea protective plantations,
  • established on an area of 27 ha in 1967-1969 by the researchers of Forest Research Institute, lecturers and students of the College demonstration-experimental and training plantations of different tree species, planted at various densities, using different soil preparation, spacing and mixing methods,
  • larch plantations of different initial density.
The questions of stand improvement and fellings as well as other silvicultural issues during training practice are analysed in established by the specialists of Forest Research Institute and lecturers of the College in industrial objects of Vaišvydava and Šilėnai forest districts sample plots of:
  • spruce biophysical stationary,
  • stand tending,
  • final fellings.
In the vicinity of the College and in Dubrava forest next to it there are environmentally extremely valuable objects:
Training practice is also performed in the forest enterprises of Prienai, Kazlų – Rūda, Druskininkai, Kaunas, Jonava as well as in other forest enterprises.
