For the growers: Sycamore maple (Lat. Acer pseudoplatanus) ÔÇô is a tree species of Aceraceae family. This large, deciduous tree grows up to 20-35 m, sometimes - up to 40 m. The highest measured in France in 2014 with a laser reached 41.50 meters high. Sycamore maple is vigorous, resistant to air pollution, wind, salt, thus suitable for planting in urban areas, roadsides. Wood is hard and durable, used for the production of furniture, musical instruments, parquet.

For the aesthetes: the crown is broad. Young bark is smooth, gray, but with age becomes coarse and cracked as a linocut. The leaves are opposite, palmate, 10-25 cm long. The inflorescences are monoecious, yellow-greenish, blooming in the early spring, clustered in 10-20 cm long dangling clusters. The fruit is winged.

For the gourmands: inedible.

For the curious: in spoken language or ancient written sources sycamore is also called black poplar, hornbeam, hawthorn, plane.
